What is my WHY?
Sentiment. Jewelry has soul, energy and meaning. . Fine jewelry pieces last forever and can become heirlooms. I’ve become in touch with this aspect more than ever as I’ve become known to help with repurposing old jewelry into new treasures. Jewelry is not something you throw away, however, maybe it’s something you get tired of, but you can pass it along, sell it or re-fashion it! This aligns with my general passion for reducing, recycling and re-using.
Living a life of “joie de vivre,” I have always loved how jewelry ignites JOY. Jewelry is about self-expression and makes people feel confident and beautiful.
Many of my clients ask for a piece that’s custom and unique, others come to buy from my collection… “layer me up, colors textures, shapes..” I work to accommodate you, being thoughtful in choosing and collaborating, whether it’s a custom re-design, repurposing of your Grandmother’s rings, or a special birthday or anniversary. I’ve honed in on creating custom pieces for my clients. Want a one of a kind, heirloom piece?
If you’re still reading.. here’s a little bit about my life -
I became a jewelry designer in Los Feliz, California where my company, Jemma Lulu Jewelry was born. My pieces possess a delicate style and my inspirations are colorful gemstones and ladylike, timeless shapes. Years ago, I brought a small collection to the exclusive Ron Herman Store in Beverly Hills and the buyer placed an order after the first meeting. (My car got towed that day and Ihad to hitchhike to my appointment as I didn’t want to be late)… Being that I was on the West Coast, I decided to hop a plane to explore the jewelry markets of Bangkok and Bali, which fueled my passion, then settled back in Manhattan. Hustling, endless hours of jewelry making, running back and forth to the Conde Nast building to drop off my lookbooks, landed my first piece of press, the cover of Glamour magazine!
As far as training goes, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to study jewelry hands-on in Brooklyn, (Michael Fitzpatrick, bench work), Fred DeVos (wax model making), Cecilia Bauer, (classical jewelry making), both in Manhattan, Florence (Italy) at Alchimia Jewelry Institute, and a grassroots workshop in Taxco, (Mexico).. (which btw, happened because I met someone on an airplane going to the Tucson gem show who had a workshop in Mexico). Like anything, much of my jewelry knowledge is simply from trying, doing and not being afraid.
Currently, I have a little GEM of a shop in Spring Lake, N.J., where my husband and I raise our four children along with our three dogs. Please subscribe to my email list + follow me on Instagram @jemmaluludesigns for my most current pieces!
